Distinctive Painting's owner Robert Riemer began painting professionally in 1988 for a contractor based in Chicago, Illinois.

Eight years on the job for this contractor allowed him to hone his skills on some of the most exclusive homes in the area. Tiring of the long commute into the city, Rob decided to work for Lakeview Decorating in his home town of Kenosha, WI.

He worked for Lakeview another several years gaining more experience and skills in decorative painting, general construction, and business management before moving to Bayfield in 2004 and starting Distinctive Painting. 

Rob and his wife Lynn first visited Bayfield in 1997. They fell in love with the area and kayaking among the Apostle Islands, so much so that Rob became a sea kayak guide that following year for Trek and Trail . He has spent his summer vacation time ever since then to continue his guiding and coaching. His wife Lynn would accompany him on some of his trips, but also worked in the office for Trek and Trail. After spending so much time in the Bay area, they decided to "risk it all" and make the move. Lynn has since become Rob's full time assistant for Distinctive Painting. As of Fall of 2014 Rob, Lynn & their trusted business partner Scott Kluver became the owners of Trek & Trail, and have carried on the legacy until 2023 when they sold the business to a new generation of paddle enthusiasts and eager Entrepeneur's who will continue to carry the torch of the amazing business that is an icon in Bayfield.   

Rob and Lynn were both in the military and are very punctual, neat, and have extraordinary attention to detail that shows in every aspect of their work.

They are also very creative.. 

Rob was trained by a professional artist for his faux finish techniques. He's also a musician; playing violin from grade school through 1 yr. of college. He then turned to playing drums with various local bands throughout the years. Lynn's background is in printing, graphic design, and quality control
